Terms of Service

Codiclens is free and open source. These terms say what that means for you: what you may do with it, and what it does not promise.

Last updated: November 3, 2026

The license

Codiclens is released under the Apache License 2.0. You may use, copy, change and share it, for free, as that license allows. The license is what governs the software; nothing on this page takes away a right it gives you.

The source is on GitHub.

Free, with no account

Codiclens costs nothing. There is no account, no sign-up, no subscription and no payment. What the app sends and keeps is on the privacy page.

No warranty

Codiclens is provided "as is", without warranties or conditions of any kind, express or implied. That includes any warranty of title, non-infringement, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. You decide whether it suits you, and you take on the risks of using it.

In particular, there is no promise that search finds every file, that search by meaning ranks results well, or that text read from an image is correct.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the people who make Codiclens are not liable for any damages that come from using it or not being able to use it. That covers direct, indirect, special, incidental and consequential damages, including lost data, lost work and computer failure, even if they were told such damage was possible.

Some Actions change files on your Mac, for example moving a file or rotating an image. Keep backups of anything that matters.

Other people's work

Codiclens builds on open source work by others, each under its own license:

  • llama.cpp, which runs search by meaning: MIT License
  • Sparkle, which handles updates: MIT License and the licenses of the code it includes
  • DigUp, parts of which Codiclens adapts: MIT License
  • Pillow, whose image resampling search by meaning follows: MIT-CMU License
  • Unicode emoji data: Unicode License v3
  • EmbeddingGemma 2 by Google DeepMind, as converted to GGUF by ggml-org: the search by meaning model, its text model and, with images and audio, its image and audio encoders. Downloaded from Hugging Face only if you choose it: Apache License 2.0

The full notices ship inside the app and are in the source. Codiclens is not made by, affiliated with or endorsed by any of these projects, or by Apple.

Using it responsibly

Use Codiclens in line with the law where you are. What you index, search for and do with your files is up to you.

Changes

These terms may change. The current version is always on this page, with its date at the top, and material changes are noted in the release notes.
