Codiclens collects nothing. Your files, your clipboard and what you search for stay on your Mac.
Last updated: November 3, 2026
The app
Codiclens has no account, no analytics, no telemetry and no crash reports. Nothing you index, copy or type is ever sent anywhere.
It makes three kinds of request, and only these:
- Update check. Once a day, Codiclens fetches a small file from codiclens.codicstack.com (hosted by Vercel). The request carries your IP address and the app's name and version, nothing else. It's on by default; turn it off in Settings → General → Updates.
- Downloads. The app itself and every update come from GitHub Releases. GitHub sees your IP address.
- Search by meaning. If you choose it, Codiclens downloads its model once from Hugging Face (310 MB for text, 865 MB with images and audio). Hugging Face sees your IP address. After that, search by meaning runs entirely on your Mac.
Two features hand off to something else on your Mac:
- Search the web opens your browser with your query on Google. Codiclens itself sends nothing; your browser does.
- Transcribe asks Codictate, if you have it installed, to transcribe the file on your Mac.
What stays on your Mac
Everything Codiclens keeps lives in ~/Library/Application Support/codiclens:
- File Index: the names and contents of files in the folders you allow.
- Search by meaning data: the model and what it has worked out about your files.
- Clipboard History: your last 100 copies. Copies that apps mark as secret, like passwords from a password manager, are skipped.
- Emoji recents and your settings.
Delete that folder to wipe it all. How to uninstall or reset.
This website
codiclens.codicstack.com uses two privacy-friendly analytics tools to see which pages people visit: PostHog (hosted in the EU) and Vercel Analytics. Neither sets cookies or stores anything in your browser. IP addresses are anonymized, and sessions are not recorded.
PostHog keeps this data for one year.
